February Reading Ladder- 2019

The amount of reading I have done is honestly not a lot, I’m getting back into reading a lot of books, and I’m starting to feel the need to read a lot of candy reads. I’m happy with the books I’ve started to read and hopefully I’ll start doing a lot more and finding more books to read.

Tittle: Beowulf

Author: Translated by Seamus Heaney

Pages: 213

Rating: ★★★★ (4 stars) Really good

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/52357.BeowulfI liked this story a lot there was a lot there to like honestly for someone like me. The imagery was very descriptive and I loved the way the main character Beowulf overcame these many hardships and how this affect him and his people. They didn’t say a lot about Beowulf’s flaws and how that would affect the people around him but they did have Beowulf go through many adventures enough that even I am satisfied with the ending. I feel like this book really opened doors and closed some for me, I can’t really imagine much happening differently with this tale as I usually do with other books but I liked it a lot regardless.

Tittle: Boys and Girls

Author: Alice Munro

Pages: 10

Rating: ★★★ (three stars) Eh OK

I don’t know what I felt about this story, like okay I guess the difference between men and women are really pointed out and at such a young age as well. So there’s that, and I guess I could say I related to the girl in the tale in that I wanted the horse to be free as well but, I didn’t like the gender roles assigned to the characters, it really rubbed me the wrong way.

Tittle: On the Rainy River

Author: Tim O’Brien

Pages: 17

Rating: ★★★ (three stars) Eh OK

I couldn’t really relate to this honestly, I’ve never had to go through a crisis that big or have my entire life flipped upside down like that enough that I feel the need to run away and gather my entire life back together before I do anything. I feel like at some point an identity crisis and maybe someone to help me through it ( who won’t judge to harshly ) will come along but I hope it doesn’t happen.

Tittle: The Glass Roses

Author: Alden Nowlan

Pages: 9

Rating: ★★★ (three stars) Eh OK

This was an interesting rad, a relationship between three characters all with some kinds of expectations and all trying their best to fulfill them. I liked the whole glass roses thing I feel like that was a metaphor for the fragile thing between them that could be broken at any point in time by someone else just trampling by. Either way this wasn’t really something I would read.

Tittle: The Iliad

Author: Homer

Pages: 27 / 366

Rating: ★★★★ (4 stars) Really good (so far)

Just got into this, I think I should’ve read the Odyssey first but this is fine I guess. I’m just getting into it and its started off as not to interesting honestly, but I’ll get into it I feel like if I really just sat down with it then I would really start to get it. Either way, I like this book and how dramatic everyone is in it honestly.

MATH:

27 + 9 + 17 + 10 + 213 = 276 / 4 = 69 (for the month)

27 + 9 + 17 + 10 + 213 = 276 / 28 = 9.8 (per day)
